Platt secrets explode in Coronation Street as Emmerdale’s Graham link is revealed

Emmerdale's Graham Foster in front of the Rovers Return Coronation Street

David (Jack P Shepherd) and Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) are about to have their lives turned upside down by a mysterious newcomer to Coronation Street with a link to one of the darkest villains in Emmerdale History – Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough)

You’d be forgiven for thinking that you’ve stumbled on a page for British Soap fanfiction. But this is very real. In ITV’s groundbreaking soap crossover Corriedale, a devastating multi-car pile-up created the perfect opportunity for a terrified young woman to escape from the van where she was being held against her will.

Her captor was revealed to be none other than Graham Foster; butler, criminal and the evil Alfred to Joe Tate’s (Ned Porteous) Bruce Wayne. Fans jaws hit the floor at Graham’s return from the grave, after being murdered by Rhonda Goskirk’s (Zoe Henry) abusive husband Pierce Harris (Jonathan Wrather) back in 2020.

So who is Jodie? How did she come to be in the back of Graham’s van? Executive Producer Kate Brooks spills the details on this new and intriguing addition to Corrie.

‘Jodie is a really interesting character.’ Kate enthuses.

‘She’s a bit of a troublemaker, she’s got a bit of mischief in her eyes. All is not what it seems with Jodie and there’s a lot of layers to her. I think the audience are going to have a lot of fun unravelling who this person is, who Jodie is as a character and what she wants as well. Keep an eye on her because there’s lots of secrets to explode and she’s going to bring an awful lot of drama to the Platt household.’

Viewers have already seen Jodie watching the Platts from afar in hospital as they recovered from the crash.

The connection between Shona and Jodie was made straight from the off, as both women have a matching tattoo. This led fans to speculate that Jodie is Shona’s sister – a theory which turns out is one hundred percent correct.

We’ve mentioned on the show previously that Shona has a younger sister so we felt the time was right to bring that sister into the mix and explore and unpack a bit of Shona’s back-story’. Kate explains. ‘That’s where Jodie comes into the picture.

‘While (the Platts) have got Jodie to contend with, they’ve also got baby Harper to look after as well so they are being pulled from pillar to post. Jodie comes in as sort of the life saver, really. She makes herself invaluable to that family unit – but she may have ulterior motives.’

David and Shona’s pregnancy journey has tested their relationship to this hilt after the heartbreaking discovery that their unborn child has a cancerous tumour which could only be treated with surgery that could put Shona’s life at risk.

Through hell and back, they supported each other and the explosive aftermath of the Corrie crash had a silver lining when Shona finally gave birth to baby Harper. Jodie is joining the Platt household at a time when they need all the help they can get.

But is Jodie all she seems? And where does Graham Foster fit into all of this?

‘We will reference what happened with Graham Foster’. Kate teases. ‘We’ll find out exactly why she was in that van, we’ll find out what her link to Graham is. From my time when I worked at Emmerdale, Graham was a character with a murky past who was capable of many things.

‘For Jodie to be embroiled with somebody of that ilk kind of sheds a light on what kind of character she is and what kind of character to expect. We’ll reveal what went on between them and how Jodie ended up running for her life through a wooded area, and what Graham’s role was in it all. ‘
