The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Coronation Street that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.

Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) was back on our screens in the latest episode of Coronation Street, after a month away.

The beloved character has been part of the ITV soap since 1979. As a member of the Platt family, Audrey has been involved in a number of dramatic storylines.

The resident’s life changed dramatically last Christmas, when her daughter Gail Platt (Helen Worth) departed the cobbles.

Despite Gail being gone, Audrey’s day-to-day life still remains incredibly busy, as she often checks in on Platt siblings Nick (Ben Price), Sarah (Tina O’Brien), and David (Jack P Shepherd) and their children.

This is exactly what she did in the latest episode, as she got word that newly returned Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) was looking for another job.

Bethany left her job at a magazine company in London after making a huge mistake while working.

She then proceeded to steal a car from her boss and travel back to Weatherfield. Bethany was under the impression that it wouldn’t be much of an issue, but she then got arrested and was interviewed by Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), her mum’s boyfriend.

As a result of Kit being in a relationship with Sarah, he was able to work his bent copper magic and get Bethany off the hook.

When Audrey paid Bethany a visit, she suggested that she works at the salon for a little while. At first, Bethany was unsure about accepting the offer.

She then spent the day with a pregnant Shona Platt (Julia Goulding), who had plans to attend a hospital scan.

Unfortunately, due to David getting stuck in a lift, he wasn’t able to attend, and Shona concluded that she didn’t want to go either if David wasn’t there.

As Shona stressed about David’s situation, Bethany was on hand to calm her down.

It was spending time with Shona that helped Bethany realise that she’s actually quite good at creating conversation and listening to someone – and they also happen to be two important skills for working in a salon.

Bethany concluded that working with family might be good for her, and told Audrey she’d like to start her first shift soon.

During Bethany’s first day, she’s put in charge of Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan), who’s on work experience.

When a client arrives and shows them some miracle pills that promise strong hair and weight loss, Hope feels impressed, but Bethany explains that these companies are just after your money, and don’t care about your health.

As the client goes to leave, she realises the pills are missing. Bethany accuses Hope of stealing them and orders her to empty her bag.

When she refuses, Bethany grabs the item, but as it happens, her stoma bag splits, leaving her devastated.

Disaster strikes though (Picture: ITV)

Bethany was fitted with a stoma bag earlier this year, after she went to Turkey for cosmetic surgery.

This went wrong, with life-threatening consequences for her. Bethany developed sepsis during the operation and ended up needing a permanent stoma bag.

She struggled with her self-esteem in the wake of this as she came to terms with having the medical item.
