EastEnders Superfan Names Her Baby After Peggy Mitchell — and Even Has Bows With the Queen Vic Legend’s Face
An EastEnders superfan has taken her love for the BBC soap to a whole new level — by naming her baby after one of the show’s most iconic matriarchs, Peggy Mitchell.
Sophie Marson-Riding, 24, from Lancashire, proudly named her daughter Peggy-Jo Evans, a tribute to the late Dame Barbara Windsor’s unforgettable character. The new mum says her four-month-old is already following in her footsteps as a pint-sized fan of the long-running soap.
“Peggy Just Stuck — I Absolutely Love It”
Sophie, a lifelong EastEnders devotee, revealed that the name came naturally when she and her partner Paul Evans, 31, began discussing baby names before she became pregnant.
“Because I love EastEnders, I was throwing out EastEnders names,” Sophie said. “Peggy just stuck, and I absolutely love it. When we found out we were having a little girl, I was even more excited.”
The name is also a sweet family tribute. “Paul’s mum passed away last year, and she was called Joanne, so we thought we would put a bit of her in it, too,” Sophie explained.
Peggy Mitchell Forever
To honour the soap legend, Sophie has gone all out with Peggy-themed accessories for her daughter. She’s had custom bows made with Barbara Windsor’s face printed on them and tiny babygrows featuring Peggy’s famous catchphrase: “Get out of my pub!”
The new mum laughed, “I’m obsessed with Phil Mitchell too, so it made sense.”
Paul, clearly amused and touched by Sophie’s dedication, said he loves the name. “I absolutely love it — plus it made the love of my life happy.”
A Mini Mitchell Fan in the Making
Baby Peggy-Jo seems destined to join the EastEnders fandom. Sophie says her little one is already glued to the screen when the soap airs.
“She’ll sit with her eyes on the TV and she’s glued,” Sophie said. “Her little arms and legs start kicking when the theme tune comes on. It’s so cute — she loves it.”![]()
A Tribute That Tugs at the Heartstrings
Barbara Windsor’s Peggy Mitchell remains one of EastEnders’ most beloved characters, remembered for her fiery temper, sharp wit, and famous command behind the bar of The Queen Vic. Sophie’s heartfelt tribute shows just how deeply the soap continues to touch fans — even inspiring a new generation of viewers.
