Dev attacks Naomi over Asha’s suicide attempt in emotional Coronation Street showdown

Coronation Street recently aired some devastating scenes for Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey), as the trainee paramedic attempted to take her own life.
This came after weeks of struggling for Asha as she tried to deal with some terrible experiences in her work life, including the deaths of two people she knew well and a savage racist attack from a woman called Naomi (Melissa Batchelor) who she was trying to help.
When Naomi surfaced at a careers fair, Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) tried to help Asha by exposing Naomi publicly as a racist, a stunt which saw Naomi threaten to sue her unless Asha dropped the action she was pursuing with the police.
This left Asha with a feeling of utter helplessness and loneliness and she took an overdose of pills.
Knowing that his daughter was ready to take her own life has left Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) feeling deeply sad for her, but also angry that she could contemplate leaving her family. He’s determined to support her but both of them are finding it hard and Dev feels out of his depth as to how to help his daughter.
In upcoming episodes she arrives home from hospital, but is snappy with Dev and tells him she’ll be fine on her own. Dev’s worried about how fragile she is, while Bernie still thinks someone should have a word with Naomi before she can drive someone else to the state Asha was in.
Kit (Jacob Roberts) mentions that he’s read Naomi’s file and she has a history of aggressive behaviour. Bernie and Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) agree that she needs to be taught a lesson.
Putting this plan into action, Gemma sits close to Naomi’s table at the bistro. The plan is that she and Bernie will wind Naomi up until she loses her temper, and they’ll capture it all on video.
Not surprisingly, Toyah (Georgia Taylor) isn’t thrilled with this scheme, and she quickly calls Dev, who’s at the kebab shop. He leaves the kebab shop in the hands of Abi (Sally Carman), who’s called in to find out if there are any shifts going, and hurries to the bistro.
He finds Gemma and Bernie’s plan in full swing, as Gemma hurls insults at Naomi and she quickly gets riled up. meanwhile, Bernie is filming the interaction. Dev and Kit arrive and stop the situation escalating further.
One thing they haven’t managed to stop is the video going out online – where, to her horror, Asha sees it. She’s horrified as Dev blames Naomi for causing his daughter to make an attempt on her life.
And it’s not long before the video is seen on the other side of the world, as Asha’s twin brother, Aadi (Adam Hussain), who’s currently living in India, also sees it.
This is the first he’s heard about what’s been happening to Asha and he’s deeply upset.
Can Dev and Bernie salvage this situation and make things right with Asha, or have they just made things even more unbearable for her?
