Former Coronation Street actress Nikki Sanderson has revealed details about her mother’s terrifying health emergency.

During Tuesday’s BBC Morning Live programme, the 41 year old star – who portrayed Candice Stowe on Corrie between 1999 and 2005 before taking on the role of Maxine Minniver on Hollyoaks from 2012 to 2025 – presented a compelling health feature.

Host Gethin Jones introduced the segment by explaining: “Now then, every second counts in a medical crisis, and taking the right action can be a matter of life and death, especially with cardiac arrests, as defibrillators can double a person’s chance of survival.”

Co-presenter Helen Skelton continued: “Now, it might sound like a no-brainer, but in some cases, that equipment isn’t accessible or in a usable state, and the consequences can be tragic, as actress Nikki Sanderson has been hearing.”

During the feature, Nikki – who recently revealed she’s expecting her first baby – shared: “In November 2021, my mum had a cardiac arrest.”, reports Wales Online.

“Her life was saved by performing CPR until a paramedic arrived on the scene with a defibrillator. Both were vital in saving her life.”

BBC Morning Live subsequently broadcast a video message from Nikki’s mother, in which she stated: “The fact that I’m here is because of CPR. It kept the oxygen flowing around my brain. The sooner you start it, the more results you will get, and that is why now I’m able to have this conversation with you.”

Nikki went on: “I’m so grateful that my mum was one of the lucky ones who survived to tell the tale but defibrillators aren’t always available when and where they’re needed, and the consequences can be devastating for those involved.”

The actress highlighted: “Ensuring enough defibrillators are available to those who need them by installing them and looking after them is a huge responsibility but a vital one in saving lives.”

After the piece aired, presenter Helen remarked: “Thank you, Nikki, and good to see that your mum is doing well as well!”.

This follows Nikki’s heartfelt tribute to the hero who helped rescue her mother’s life in 2022. The soap star wrote: “This is Howard, Howard is the first responder who saved my mums life.

“A year ago today our world came crashing down. In the early evening of November 14th my brother and sister in law had a extremely distressing call from my mum incoherently saying she was in a lot of pain.

“My brother, Anthony and I rushed to her house as it’s completely out of character for mum to complain of feeling ill. Less than 5 minutes after we got to mums, she went into cardiac arrest and she died. We immediately started CPR under the guidance of the 999 operator who was so supportive and calm in the most scary, traumatic time of our lives.

“Minutes later Howard arrived, he was expecting to attend to a woman who was having a fit so it was a huge shock to him when he entered the room, but with his quick thinking and incredible knowledge he began working on mum to get a pulse.

“He didn’t give up, he fought to save her even though the odds were against her, he wouldn’t call time of death as he wanted to get her back…. And eventually, he did, along with the ambulance crew that later joined him. Mum subsequently had another cardiac arrest when arriving at hospital and the incredible team there worked on her for just under 49 minutes to bring her back and save her life.

“This last year has been an incredibly difficult journey for us to navigate with all the complications that arose, but mum has fought hard throughout, refusing to give up.
