Coronation Street viewers have been left gobsmacked after discovering the age of Sally Metcalfe.

Sally, played by Sally Dynevor, first graced the cobbles of the popular ITV soap back in 1986. Since then, she’s become a stalwart of the show, featuring in numerous high-profile storylines.

From her heart-wrenching battle with cancer to her string of failed romances – including a marriage to Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), Sally’s tenure in Weatherfield has been anything but dull.

This is particularly true at present, as the soap is currently delving into a harrowing new historic grooming storyline involving Sally’s husband Tim (Joe Duttine).

Last week, Tim was reunited with a figure from his past, a woman named Trisha, when he picked her up in his taxi. According to Tim, Trisha was the one who took his virginity back in the 1980s when he was just 14 and she was in her 20s, reports the Daily Star.

However, when Tim shared this with Brian (Peter Gunn) and Sally, they both insisted that it was actually a case of grooming, given that Tim was underage at the time. Despite this, Tim seemed unwilling to accept their viewpoint.

He defended the age gap, insisting it was consensual and that his mates were envious of him. Later, Brian even confronted Trisha, accusing her of grooming a child, which left her utterly shocked.

The plot thickened when Sally stumbled upon a chilling comment on one of Trisha’s social media photos, suggesting that she should be imprisoned for her actions.

Sally persistently tried to convince Tim that he had been manipulated by her, but he remained unconvinced, even bringing up their age difference. Despite this, he chose to sever ties with Trisha, much to her disappointment.

However, amidst all the turmoil on the cobbles for Sally and Tim, fans are only just catching onto Sally’s real age.

On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer remarked: “Did anyone else realise that Sally is older than Tim? She was born 1967 and he was born 1972.” Another added: “She looks a lot younger, I’d have said they were the same age.” A third agreed: “Same here!”
