The Young and The Restless Comings and Goings: Lily Exits as Christel Khalil Goes on Maternity Leave

When Young and Restless star Christel Khalil (Lily) revealed she was pregnant with her third child, it was inevitable that she would have to take some time off from the soap for maternity leave. In the January 7 episode, Lily informed Cane that she was going to be leaving town to spend some time with their daughter, Mattie, and she didn’t know how long she would be gone. While the timing may be perfect for the actress to welcome the new addition to her family, it couldn’t be worse for Cane (Billy Flynn), who has been desperately trying to win back his ex-wife.
Time Out
While Khalil made no formal announcement that she and her husband, Sam Restagno, were expecting another child, the actress did show off her baby bump back in late October, dancing with her Y&R castmates in a video posted to social media on October 27, 2025. Khalil and Restagno welcomed their first son, Remy, in either late 2023 or early 2024. The actress also has a 15-year-old son, Michael Caden, from a previous marriage.
Eagle-eyed viewers had been noticing for months that Lily had been wearing looser clothing and carrying larger bags, as the soap had to cover Khalil’s pregnancy because her alter ego was not expecting. In fact, Lily has been single ever since her budding potential romance with Damian (Jermaine Rivers) came to an abrupt end back in July 2025.
Since then, Cane has been attempting to woo his wife back into his waiting arms, but she has resisted his attempts as she feels he’s no longer the man to whom she was once married. He’s been desperately trying to prove he can still be that guy, and even managed to steal a kiss on New Year’s Eve. However, when he later followed up, she insisted that the liplock was a moment of weakness and was going away for a while. Cane offered to back off if she reconsidered, and when she wouldn’t, accused her of running away.
With that kiss still on her mind as she packed her bags, it clearly meant more to Lily than she’s letting on to Cane. But once her portrayer’s maternity leave comes to an end and Lily returns home to Genoa City, what kind of Cane will she be coming back to? With Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) continuing to act as the devil on Cane’s other shoulder, might Lily’s rejection cause him to spiral and let out his dark side?
