EXCLUSIVE: Coronation Street star warns David and Shona will ‘unravel’ in Corriedale fallout
Coronation Street star Julia Goulding told The Mirror that in the aftermath of Corriedale, David and Shona Platt will find their lives ‘unraveling’ across the coming months
One Coronation Street star has teased the fallout to the soap’s big crossover with Emmerdale for one couple.
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Shona Platt actress Julia Goulding teased how the big event will impact Shona and her husband David Platt. Shona is currently pregnant, and she recently learned the baby had a mass on their neck.
Shona was told she would need treatment to remove the mass, with her and David fearing for the safety of their unborn child. The duo are caught up in the big crash next week, with pictures showing Emmerdale medical student Jacob Gallagher checking her over at the roadside.
But will Shona and David, and their baby, be okay? Teasing the aftermath of the episode, Julia told us: “Imagine David and Shona and their life is a ball of wool. Imagine what would happen if a cat got hold of it, it would unravel.”
As for the episode itself, she teased that fans could be screaming and gasping before adding: “I don’t want to say it’s explosive as it’s a bit obvious. It’s phenomenal.
“I absolutely don’t think anyone is gonna see what is coming in this episode, I really don’t. Which makes it all the more exciting and all the more exciting to be a part of.” It won’t all be doom and gloom though, as Julia shared that there’d be soap humour too.
She said: “It’s Corrie and Emmerdale. Humour runs through it like Blackpool rock. The writing, the humour, whether it’s dark humour or moments in a lot of shade. And by shade I mean nighttime because it was six weeks of night shoots!
“Both soaps remain true to who they are and they work so well together. Personally for me it felt like being at home, working with the Emmerdale crew and cast over In Leeds. It was a real privilege.”
Fans will see Shona in danger it seems amid the crash horror, as Julia confessed she did stunt work. She shared: “I did get to do a stunt and I wore a harness and everything. I felt like Lara Croft.
“I was happy that I got to do a stunt as I assumed I wouldn’t be able to do it because she’s with child, but I did.” Julia also loved getting to film with Emmerdale’s Emma Atkins, who plays Charity Dingle, adding she took her under her wing.
Julia told us: “When I read I was gonna do a scene with Emma I was elated. Charity Dingle is the most iconic character, and they’re both pregnant and weirdly both in green.
“It was gorgeous. Charity takes Shona under her wing a bit, and it was gorgeous because I felt like Emma was taking me under her wing. When the cameras weren’t rolling we were sitting there, nattering away and then bam, dramatic moments, and then back to nattering.”
