Coronation Street fans are floored after finding out the reason David Platt addresses his mum by her first name Gail.It’s fair to say Gail (Helen Worth) and David (Jack P. Shepherd) have a rather turbulent relationship over the years: from blazing rows to even David pushing Gail down the stairs.

Last year though, Gail left the cobbles after 50 years, with her exit airing on Christmas Day. After getting married for the seventh time, to Jesse Chadwick (John Thompson), the pair left Weatherfield for a new life in France.

In the past twelve months since she left, Gail has been checking in on her family, and last month, David found out he was expecting his first child with wife Shona (Julia Goulding), making Gail’s sixth grandchild.Meanwhile soap fans will recall that David has always referred to mum Gail by her first name, often leaving viewers puzzled. On social media, fans reckon the ‘reason’ is down to Gail previously considering aborting David – something he later found out.
